![]() ![]() The quality of the backdrops is mixed, as some of the overland locations show careful craftsmanship while many of the underground areas are inorganically angular and feel very computer-generated. Ruins of Myth Drannor also features several impressive visual spell effects, with colorful bursts of light and tumbling, wispy fogs. The characters look quite good, fluidly animated and delicately shaded, and their appearances change according to the armor and weapons equipped. The graphical technique is oddly reminiscent of The Sims, featuring 3D-modeled characters and objects against an essentially 2D backdrop. When the game is running smoothly, it does have some appeal. Most significantly, Ruins of Myth Drannor does not accomplish the depth of story, the detail of character customization, or the engulfing campaign world that made the original Pool of Radiance such a memorable adventure. While Ruins of Myth Drannor arguably follows the official 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons rules, it tends to bring out the weaknesses of pen-and-paper play instead of enhancing or simplifying the experience for a single computer gamer. But as a computer translation of role-playing's most important and familiar system, which also brazenly claims the heritage of the original "Gold Box" Pool of Radiance, this release fails soundly. I tried to attach screen shots but couldn't figure out how without posting them online first and using a URL.As a conventional isometric dungeon crawl, Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor is not a terrible game. What's interesting is that a pure fighter will only get 17 HP per level at 22 constitution.but the multi-class characters get +3 HP PER CLASS, for a total of 9 extra hit points per level. Fighter: 8, Mage: 6, Cleric: 7, Thief: 7. ![]() That way you can always replace your necklace when the charges run out.Ģ. Dupe it BEFORE you use it and save a few unused ones in another savegame on your mules. Do not be fooled by the name, it is actually a necklace of fireball. Get to Stojanow Gate, buy the cart, kill the bugbears, and go to the next map(as soon as you are strong enough), find the barracks, and get the Necklace of Missles. You have to steer clear of that building if he is in your party and you don't want to lose him.ġ. He will stay with you for the entire game as long as you remove him from the party before visiting the city commissioner. Do not complete the graveyard yet if you want to keep wights around to level drain your NPCs after you get them. After all your characters have 22 constitution, go to the graveyard and let the wights drain all of your characters back to level one. The game is buggy, sometimes characters just disappear from the roster. Make sure to dupe a few extra and keep a savegame somewhere with a mule character that has the extra manuals of bodily health in inventory. Do not exceed that or you may have issues if you go over 255HP in later games. *NOTE: For the manual of bodily health to work you must rest for 31 days after reading it to get the constitution bonus. Once you get that, dupe it and bring all of your characters to 22 constitution. DO NOT COMPLETE THE GRAVEYARD BEFORE GETTING THIS. The first thing you need to get is the Manual of Bodily Health. I use 5 Half-Elf Fighter/Magic User/Clerics and one Elf Fighter/Magic User/Thief. It helps if you have another save game with some mid to high level characters you can steal equipment from before you start. It is, however, a little gratifying seeing a party this powerful. It makes the game kinda boring though! Battle is no challenge. I beat the game while my party was at level 3.
