This person may also be exposed to radiation when assisting patients having PET scans done. This person will occasionally come in contact with blood and body fluids when administering care to patients. This position works in the Imaging department of a busy oncology/hematology clinic. At least one year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified required.Must be licensed by the Alabama Board of Nursing.Must be able to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.Must have knowledge of the nature and treatments of oncological diseases as it relates to the scans being performed.Must have knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.Must have knowledge of all scans performed at CIC, including preps for each scan.Must have the ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.Must be able to provide excellent patient care.Must be able to demonstrate organizational abilities, clerical skills, laboratory knowledge and skills, nursing equipment knowledge,.Must be proficient in grammar, spelling, math, handwriting skills.Ability to be at work regularly and on time.May train and guide other nursing and support staff engaged in clinical activities may participate in research and related activities.Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.Provides education to patients, families, and significant others acts as an information resource to health care professional and patients.Follows protocol regarding glucose and administration of insulin. Obtains blood sugar for all PET scan patients.Educate patients and/or families regarding the prep for each scan and the reasons for ordering each scan.Calculates GFR and follows contrast administration protocol. Ensures that creatinine within last 30 days has been drawn on all pts requiring IV contrast.Oversees initial workflow for each modality (exception is Xray and US). Coordinates the arrival of patients, taking into consideration their preps and all scans ordered that day. ![]() Obtains history for CT, MRI, PET, and NM patients. Provides direct nursing care for all imaging patients.This position is not a supervisory position.The purpose of the Imaging Center Nurse is to provide services to patients and physicians required to operate a proficient and pleasant environment. Some walking and standing may be required to complete tasks. This position requires that the employee be able to sit at a desk in front of a computer for up to eight hours a day. This person generally only has contact with patients via phone. This position works in the billing department of a busy oncology/hematology clinic. Knowledge of medical billing preferred.Must have at least (2) years nursing experience.Must have excellent time management, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.Knowledge of health insurance industry, organization, electronic medical records software, Excel, and claims processing preferred.In-depth understanding of individual insurance company drug policies versus state and national IV chemotherapy guidelines required.Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.Must be able to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.Must have knowledge of insurance companies and their policies.Track and report outcomes of each authorization request.Obtain written documentation of each authorization request.Interface directly with medical staff to ensure a seamless and efficient process to the patients receiving chemotherapy treatments.Secure medical authorizations from third party payers for chemotherapy treatments. ![]()
